Getting there

October 26, 2008

So… 30 days running at the age of 30 im hitting the 30 mark again (31:22) for the 10k.

To be honest my comeback has been very fast and I missed a weeks running last week, also 4 days before that 3 days missed because of a blister the size of a 1 euro coin on the arch of my left foot, but as I found out now it didnt effect my time today. Im very happy with my results and hope to better these times too in the coming weeks.

There is a 10k race in my town here in Brasil on the 31st of December and I am still debating with myself to enter or not… because I want to get a great time and not just an “ok” time… watch this space.

So for now thats all but I will blog any progress if I make big improvements.

Keep running.

Inspiration

October 4, 2008

Hello again everyone, well today I was searching the NET for some running inspiration, videos, books or whatever and I stumbled accross a guy called Dean Karnazes… im sure a lot fo you out there have already heard  of this great runner but this was my first encounter and i was blown away with the guys running. He is without a doubt my new hero. I would love to see him as he is in Brasil this week but to be honest its very far away from where I am. He will be in Porto Alegre in the north of Brasil Oct 3rd – 5th doing a conference and then later a 24hr treadmill run.

The guy is a machine… here is some examples (he is not the fastest guy or anything but his endurance is insane) 11 time sliver buckle holder for Western States 100-mile Endurance run, Badwater Ultramarathon winner 2004, South Pole marathon winner 2002, Vermont Trail 100-mile Endurance run winner 2006, 50 marathons in 50 States in 50 Straight Days aka The 50/50, Atacama Crossing, Atacama Desert, Chile Winner 2008, The longest he has run non stop is 350 miles it took 80hrs and 44min of non stop running (he passed out after) His weekly mileage runs from 70 to 180 miles per week and he does a lot of crosstraining.

The guy is without a shadow of doubt my new idol. Google him im sure there is more you can find out about his running and im sure you will be impressed and inspired.

Keep running.

September 28, 2008

Well, if you are reading this then you are reading my first entry… one of many i hope and all to do with running, be it long distance or mid distance or even futher than both of them. If advice is asked it will be only of my personal point of view as i am not a trainer in any way but if thats whats needed by you i know a guy here who would be more than willing to help you out.

This will mainly be a log entry system for me and my long bouts with running and a nice way to blog my progress and or race entry and times.

So for now thats it… keep running and speak to you soon.

Background

September 30, 2008

So, before I start to log my progress in running I think it would be a good idea to let you know a bit about where im coming from and what I have achieved, although no medals (for running anyway).

So, I joined an athletics club around the age of 15 where my progress was fast and strong, I did all the sports that they had to offer, if it was javelin that day I would participate although for me I had a calling to run.  So from there after many years running with them i found that my pace and endurance was much more than the boys and girls there… I could push harder for longer and would see many victories ahead! After a while I got caught up in the martial arts craze I found less and less time for running. After a few years of that at the age of around 17/18, I started to bodybuild and never ran anymore… there were a few years absence from running until suddenly I wanted to join the Army. I did so and the 6 months initial traning there was the hardest 6 months of my life so far and will go to prove to me that I can push my body to extreme limits. Even though I wanted to give up at one time, I didnt and pushed through.

So my higest point so far in running has to be in Africa where we would train every day at a 10k distance, only on Sundays did we rest. So thats 60k per week at a good pace but one day we had a internal comp just for fun… no medals, just glory and so I put my best time in that day and that was 30:02 for 10k.  So 6 years later and no running really to speak of since that year I have caught the “bug” again and got up off my lazy ass and started to run. At the moment am doing about 18 to 19min to 6 or 7k and its my 11th day back with one rest day… it can really vary form day to day I find as my body is starting to get use to running again. My “program” now is 5 or 6 consecutive days running and 1/2 days rest or “easy” days.

So now you know where i stand and that is 18min for 7k (I cant seem to push futher than 7 but that will change in the coming weeks) , in time i want to bring that time down and distance up. Better than 30:02… thats my aim and thats my goal in the long term, for now its just to bring the distance up from 6 or 7k and start running 10k again and from there i will get faster.

So untill next time… keep running.
